About Exchange Rates
Exchange rates fluctuate constantly based on macroeconomic factors including interest rate differentials, inflation, trade balances, and market sentiment. The rates shown are mid-market rates — the midpoint between the buy and sell prices in global forex markets. When exchanging currency at a bank or service provider, expect to pay a spread on top of the mid-market rate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
Rates are fetched from exchangerate-api.com, a reliable free-tier provider updated multiple times daily. Rates are cached for up to one hour. If the live feed is unavailable, the calculator falls back to recent reference rates and displays an "estimated" notice.
Which currencies are supported?
This converter supports USD (US Dollar), EUR (Euro), CNY (Chinese Yuan), JPY (Japanese Yen), GBP (British Pound), HKD (Hong Kong Dollar), CAD (Canadian Dollar), AUD (Australian Dollar), and KRW (South Korean Won).
Are these rates suitable for financial transactions?
These rates are mid-market rates for reference only. Banks and money transfer services typically charge a spread of 0.5–3% above the mid-market rate. For large transfers, compare rates across multiple providers.
Why is JPY displayed without decimals?
Japanese Yen and Korean Won are high-denomination currencies where fractional units are not practically used. The calculator automatically formats these currencies without decimal places for clarity.
How often are rates updated?
The exchange rate API updates rates several times per day. Our calculator caches the response for 1 hour to reduce API calls, so rates may be up to 1 hour old. For real-time forex trading, always use a dedicated trading platform.
